JUAN CORTIZO
Juan Cortizo (Caracas, 2002) is a Venezuelan industrial designer who graduated from the *Instituto de Diseño de Caracas* in February 2024. Quíbor originated as his undergraduate thesis under the guidance of Professor Jorge Wahbeh.
When discussing the research process that preceded the development of these products, he recalls two key moments: a visit to the *Museo Antropológico de Quíbor*, where he discovered the richness of ancestral Indigenous craftsmanship, and a visit to a carpentry workshop in the town of Guadalupe, where he observed a bowl crafted using the *taracea* (marquetry) technique, identifying its acoustic potential.
Words from the Designer
"For me, the development of Quíbor has been a journey of shared learning and discovery. As an industrial designer, it has been a source of inspiration, the discovery of new techniques, and an opportunity to collaborate with extraordinary makers.
I believe that for the artisans, the experience of exploring new forms and functions has opened the door to experimenting with organic and refined shapes, even developing new artisanal products that have the potential to revitalize their craft."
